  1. Well Mr. Chaiken, it seems like you have made a lot of progress from the time that you could only run your fingers across the chords to now having the skills and familiarity with your banjo to improvise. I enjoy listening to music, but unlike you, I do not have the knowledge to produce it. I do not know if you are going to do this, but you mentioned getting back into the groove (pun absolutely intended) of songwriting, and I think it would be really cool if you recorded a few of the songs that you have written and then created an album or an EP. I also agree with you about how “flexible” this project has been. Like you, I have had a passion (designing buildings) but have not had the time or the excuse to do it. This project has given me the opportunity to explore my interest and take it to the next level.

  2. Well Ben, I have to say that I am ver impressed. As you continue through your project of learning the banjo, you have been demonstrating clear improvement. In regards to this particular video blog, it seems like you have hit a lot of major benchmarks. This week has brought many other students trouble, but you have done a good job of powering through to understand the banjo as much as you can. Also, was really able to hear your voice in this post. Your passion for not only music, but the banjo as well, really came through in your words. Good stuff Chaikenator!

  3. Aw Ben you're cute. I feel like you are already good at banjo and feel like you're just naturally good at music so I guess that helps! My friend's dad got her this pretty gnarly vintage banjo maybe I will tell her some of the resources you used so that she can start from scratch. Also I didn't know that you wrote music, you should record some original songs and put them out there!

  4. WOw Ben I can't believe the amount of progress you have made on your project so far! What you can play now on the banjo is amazing and is way more than I could learn in 7 years let alone 7 weeks. It's very obvious that you are passionate about music and folk music specifically so good for you for picking a project that you can and will be very interested in for these 7 weeks and probably for a long time after too! I'm really excited to hear what other stuff you will be able to play in another few weeks. I would say good luck with the rest of your project but it doesn't look like you'll be needing any luck with the amount of talent you've got with instruments! sooo.. have fun with the rest of your project!(:

  5. Wow Ben, you can totally play the banjo now! That's so cool. You seem to know a lot! How much do you think already knowing how to play other instruments helped? Also, how much do you practice each week?
